Q&A Session with Seasoned Maker, Jess Smith

Jess Smith, previous group admin and owner of Cariad Baths, shares her best advice

Soakies will know Jess Smith from her incredible Cariad Bath creations and her previous work as one of our Facebook Support Group admins.

Whenever we shared her designs, we were met with a flood of comments from Soakies asking for tips on how they could achieve a similar result. So, we asked her! Keep reading to discover her best advice.

How do you create such vibrant bath art? 💥

Lots of embeds in different colours. Don’t be afraid to go stronger. Just make sure you test everything!

Pack your mould tightly for the first half. Fill with embeds. Then lightly but firmly pack the back. This helps the bomb float which creates more bath art.

Is there a knack for creating such detailed bubble bars? 🫧

Just don’t be afraid to try new things! I started making cocoa butter drizzle using the advanced recipe in the soak assessment. And I use fondant cutters to create shapes from bubble bar mix that I let dry and firm up.

How do you paint your bath bombs so intricately? 🖌️

I use nail art brushes! Tiny brushes make the job easier.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs? 💡

Pinterest is a wealth of ideas. I did also have some custom moulds made inspired by some jewellery I fell in love with.

Is there a particular piece of equipment you couldn’t live without? 🧪

A mill grinder! Get that citric ground down to a powder! Though it’s a close call between that and an airbrush.
