Get scroll-stopping shots using these photography tips
Whether you’re posting on social media, updating your website or setting up an Etsy shop, clear, bright images make all the difference.
You don’t need a camera or studio setup. Just your phone, good lighting and a few easy tricks can take your product photos from average to eye-catching.

Use Natural Light 🌤️
Daylight is your best friend. Set up near a window and turn off any overhead lights that give a yellow or mixed tone.
Cloudy days are perfect for soft, even lighting. If it’s sunny, diffuse the light by turning down your camera’s brightness or by using a white sheet to avoid harsh shadows.
Keep the Background Clean 📸
Let your product be the focus. Use a plain surface like white card, wooden boards or neutral fabric, because a cluttered background will distract from your creation.
Flatlays work well for soaps and bath bombs. Upright shots suit jars, bottles and tubs, but try a few setups to see what works best for your range.
Get the Angles Right 🔄
Take photos from a few different angles. Try overhead, eye level and 45 degrees to give your audience a better feel for the product.
Move your body, not your zoom, to keep the image sharp. You can crop later if needed.
Focus on the Details 🔍
Focus on texture, layers, shimmer or colour. This works especially well for whipped soap, jelly soap, body scrubs or anything with a visual twist.
Wipe your phone lens and tap the screen to focus before you take the shot. That alone can make a big difference.
Edit Lightly for a Polished Look ✨
You don’t need special apps. Use your phone’s built-in tools to brighten, sharpen and crop.
Aim for a natural, accurate look. Avoid heavy filters that change the colour of your product or mislead your customer.
