Make Your First Market Stall a Sell-Out

Calm the nerves and boost your sales with these tips, prompts and things we learned the hard way

Getting ready for your first market stall? It can feel like a lot, but don’t panic.

From display ideas to pricing advice and payment setups, we’ve got all the tips you need to show up feeling confident and ready to sell.

Price Like a Pro 🏷️

Pricing can feel awkward at first, but your products are worth it. Decide on a fair price that covers your ingredients, time, and packaging. If you need help, watch our “How to Calculate Your Costings” YouTube tutorial HERE

A simple price sign with clear product names and costs will also save you from repeating yourself all day.

Don’t Forget the Card Reader 💳

Fewer and fewer people carry cash nowadays, so make sure you’re set up to take card payments.

Look at options like Square or Zettle: simply charge the reader, connect to your phone, and then you’re ready to go. Just make sure to test it beforehand so there’s no drama on the day.

Set the Scene with Low-Cost Display Ideas 🧺

You don’t need to spend loads to make your stall stand out. Think cake stands, crates, baskets or even a small ladder shelf.

Add height, signs, and a tablecloth in your brand colours. An interactive station of mini testers is also a fun and exciting way to promote your makes.

Show Off with an iPad Display 📱

A simple tablet and a looped video can truly bring your creations to life.

Show bath bombs fizzing, soaps being unmoulded, or whipped soap in action to grab the attention of passers-by. Just remember to charge it the night before!

Bestsellers Belong Front and Centre 🌟

Show off your most popular items where people can see (and smell!) them straight away.

Group similar products together and label anything with a clear skin benefit or seasonal scent.

Be Ready for Questions 🗣️

People might ask what your products are made from, how to use them, or what’s best for their skin.

Have a few confident answers ready, and consider popping some basic information on a sign or making yourself a cheat sheet. It’ll help if you get shy under pressure.

Stay Cool and Look the Part 😌

Dress comfortably and wear something that reflects your brand, even a Soak hoodie counts!

Bring a water bottle, snacks, and float for change. You’ll feel more in control when you’re prepared for the basics.
