What You Can (and Can’t) Do With an Assessment

A Soak Rochford-approved guide to working with your assessment

Once you’ve bought your CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report), it can be tempting to tweak things as you go, but not all swaps are allowed. 

Here’s a quick reminder of what’s fine to change, what isn’t, and when you’ll need to go back for another assessment. Remember, staying compliant means staying safe and legal ✅

Can I Change the Colour? 🌈

Yes, colour changes are usually allowed, but only if the new colourant is already listed in your CPSR. 

For example, Bath Bomb Assessment #1 allows for 8 water-soluble dyes, 8 micas and 2 glitters. Whereas Bath Bomb Assessment #4 allows for 12 water-soluble dyes, 12 micas, 2 glitters, 6 neon non-bleeds and 4 glow-in-the-dark pigments.

Soak assessments often include a generous palette, but you’ll need to double-check your report. Because if the colour you want to use isn’t listed, you’ll need to get a new assessment.

Can I Switch the Fragrance? 🌸

Again, only if the fragrance oil you want to use is already included in your report. Because each fragrance has its own allergen profile, you can’t just swap it out for something else.

Each of our Soak assessments comes with its own correlating fragrance pack that includes 10 different oils to use with your CPSR. For example, fragrance oil pack #1 goes with #1 assessments, fragrance oil pack #2 goes with #2 assessments and so on…

Can I Repackage My Product? 🧴

Yes! Changes to packaging like tubs, shakers or bottles are allowed, as long as the intended use stays the same.

For example, you can switch your whipped soap’s packaging from a tub to a tube, but changing your whipped soap into body scrub would require a new assessment.

Can I Swap Out Ingredients? 💧

No. You can’t add, remove or substitute any ingredients unless they’re already listed in your CPSR. Even switching out oils or butters would need a different assessment.

Can I Sell a Different Size? 📦

Yes, offering multiple sizes is completely fine. Whether it’s a mini whipped soap or a mega bath bomb, you’re allowed to change the volume or weight.

Just make sure your label clearly shows the size and usage instructions.
