How to Keep Your Creations Stable in the Heatwave

Summer survival tips for cosmetic creators battling the heat

This heatwave is lovely for a beach day, but not so great for your home, bath and body creations.

If your products have started to sweat, melt or feel softer than usual, don’t panic. With a few small tweaks, you can keep your creations looking and performing at their best all summer long.

Watch your Ingredients 👀

Some oils and butters have a low melting point, especially shea butter and coconut oil.

If you’re making products during hot temperatures, try switching to harder alternatives like cocoa butter or using stabilisers like kaolin clay to help thicken your formula.

Time your Making Sessions ⏰

If your workspace gets hot during the day, try working in the early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.

This helps your mixtures stay stable while blending and setting, especially for products like whipped soap and melt and pour soap that are sensitive to heat during mixing.

Store Smart 📦

Your workspace matters. Try to keep products in the coolest, driest area possible, away from direct sunlight, radiators or windowsills.

Use fans or a dehumidifier if needed. Even placing your creations on a metal rack or an open shelf will allow airflow around your products, preventing them from sweating and keeping them dry.

Plan for Transport 🚚

Delivering to a market, event or customer? Pop your creations in a cooler bag or insulated box, especially for long journeys.

Wrap them gently in tissue or shredded paper so they don’t bash around, and avoid leaving them in hot cars.

Test in the Heat 🧪

The best way to be sure? Leave a few testers in different spots around your house, garden or car and monitor what happens.

This gives you a real sense of how your products behave in the heat, so you can tweak ingredients or packaging if needed.
