Getting Started with Bath Bombs

Before you get started on your cosmetic creation journey, it’s important that you’re prepared with all the equipment and knowledge you’ll need.

It’s so exciting to set out on a new venture, especially one that’s as creative, colourful and expressive as bath bomb-making. But before you get started, here’s a bit of advice that we learned the hard way, so you don’t have to!

  1. Start Simple

It’s really easy to get carried away with all the different types of moulds, especially when you see the huge range that Soak Rochford has to offer. However, if you’re first starting out, we’d recommend getting to grips with some of the easier, beginner moulds first until you get used to the technique.

Consider the moulds that have flat edges and not too much intricate detailing as this will reduce your chance of bits chipping off and breaking such as the butterfly or star.

2. Avoid Hot Days

Hot days and bath bomb-making really aren’t very compatible. The extra humidity and moisture in the air will more than likely cause your creations to crack and crumble.

To avoid this, we’d recommend using less water in your mixture, but more importantly, keep them in a highly ventilated area.

3. Invest in Your Equipment

Once you’ve undergone a few attempts, you’ll begin to realise the more strenuous parts of bath bomb-making. To minimise the amount of effort that goes into your creations, consider purchasing some high-quality equipment to assist you in the process.

For example, look into electric grinders that will create really fine citric acid for your bombs. Also, if you live in a hot area, as mentioned above the humidity won’t be your friend. Therefore, a decent dehumidifier will make all the difference to the quality of your bombs.

4. Don’t Get Frustrated

We know it’s easily done!

It can be really disheartening when a bath bomb doesn’t go the way you want it to. It might be one, but it also might be the whole batch! However, the trial-and-error process will ensure that you get everything just the way you want it in the end.

Play around with your colours, embeds, moulds and fragrances and don’t be scared to experiment. You probably won’t get it bang on straight away, but that’s all part of it. And if you do get everything right straight off the bat, we’re very impressed!

5. Join Our Facebook Group

Our Facebook group is full of our very own community and it’s open to any customers who would like to join.

We host competitions, share our successes and failures and also help each other out whenever it’s needed. It’s a really friendly, open environment for Soakies new and old!
