What you need to know as a newbie

When you’re just starting out as a cosmetic creator, here are a few things you should be aware of

Becoming a cosmetic creator is such a fun and exciting process, but there are a few things you should get straight in your head before you jump in. This will save you a lot of stress and confusion in the long run!

Here are a few things to take into consideration.

What assessment do you want to start with?

This choice will then impact what tools you’ll need to create the products.
For example, if you’re choosing whipped soap, then it’s worth investing in a stand mixer that will save you from getting severe arm aches after a few batches. However, if you’ve got your eye on bath bombs, our Soakies will tell you just how beneficial a dehumidifier is!

If you have it clear in your head which product you will start creating first, you can also start researching which colours and patterns you like best so that you’re prepared when you receive all your ingredients.

Where are you going to sell your products?

If you’re planning on making a profit from your cosmetic creations, you should have an idea of where you’re going to be focusing your efforts.

Are you going to show your face at local craft fairs? Or would you rather be more technically and branch out into Etsy and eBay? You could even put all of your time and energy into social media for a start!

It’s worth developing a support network

If you have friends or family members who work for themselves, it would be a good idea to ask for any advice they have for just starting out. They might have some valuable tips for avoiding loneliness or dealing with tricky customers.

If you don’t know anyone like this, join our Facebook group! It’s full of thousands of Soakies who are on hand to offer advice, give you their top tips, praise your latest creation or just listen to you rant.
