Rates of usage are dependent on your assessments, and personal preference, but please use the below as a good starting point:
- Clear Melt and Pour- 0.25% – 0.5%
- Opaque Melt and Pour Bases- 1.5% – 2%
- Cold Process Soap- 1.0% – 5%
Micas can also be used to colour all types of wax, but are not suggested for non display candles, as the mica particles may block wicks and extinguish the flame.
Micas can also be painted onto soaps, or used with soap stamps.
If you mix the Mica powder with alcohol, you can also paint beautiful details onto bath bombs. We would suggest the use of Polysorbate 80 in your recipe, to help disperse the pigment and avoid mica lines around the tub.

This is a superb colour. And I used to compliment extraterrestrial Green in a drop swirl pattern in CP Soap. It’s so versatile if you use a very small amount you get a lovely shimmering colour and the more you add the stronger the purple becomes. Mixes so easily with a ratio of 1:2 mica:oil. A must for pink and purple lovers.
