When You Struggle to Keep Going…

Advice from a business owner who has been there and done that!

The life of a small business owner isn’t always as glamourous as we sometimes see in the media. The early finishes, £5k months and viral TikToks can be overshadowed by increasing cost prices and an uneven work/life balance.

However, on those days when your inner saboteur threatens to come knocking, work your way through the list of suggestions below to get yourself back to feeling inspired and motivated.

Look back at your reviews

These morale boosts will be sure to remind you of just how much your skills are appreciated by your customers.

If you haven’t got any reviews yet, make sure you start asking your customers for them. It might feel awkward at first, but receiving reviews allows you to gain an honest insight into your business and it also gives potential customers reassurance that you can provide them with high-quality products.

Have a break

When you’re feeling frustrated, it can be really difficult to talk yourself down from a ledge, so walk away from your workstation and give yourself 15 minutes to try and clear your headspace.

Either make a cup of tea or walk around the block. You’ll be amazed at just how effective taking yourself out of a situation is.

Think about why you started

When you made the leap to go self-employed, what was it that spurred you on and made you excited for the future?

Remembering your “why” can help to reignite the passion that you first felt for your business.

Reach out to some Soakies

Chances are, either we or one of our Soakies have been through what you’re feeling before.

Sometimes it can be difficult to reach out to friends and family because it feels like they can’t relate to what you’re going through. With our Soak Rochford Facebook Support Group, you are surrounded by thousands of cosmetic creators who understand.

Think about what you want to achieve

What do you want to gain out of running your own business? Are there particular milestones that you want to reach?

It might help to have a visual aid to help pick you up when you’re feeling down. Whether this is a tracker, a Pinterest board or a physical vision board in your workshop, having something to remind you of why you work so hard can be really motivating.
