How to Best Organise Your Time

Organise your days as efficient as possible with these time tips

It always seems that when the due dates of our most demanding tasks are looming, we have to battle distractions, procrastination and a lack of focus the most.

But, when you’re a small business owner, every minute of your working day counts. So, why not try the following methods to attempt to organise your time better?

Job Lists

Job lists can either be created daily or weekly, depending on how far in advance you know what errands will need to be completed.

Start by listing tasks in order of priority. Then, work your way down the list, ticking off the jobs as you go…

Any jobs at the bottom of the list that aren’t so important can be moved to the next day.

Dedicated Working Hours

This might sound like an obvious point, but it’s staggering how many small business owners don’t have set working hours.

If you tell yourself that you’ll only work between 9am and 5pm, you allow yourself some spare time to still have a social life and get housework chores done. Without this structure, you might end up resenting the work you do.

Not having dedicated working hours could also result in you working too much which can only lead to burnout.

Time Blocking

This time management method does what it says on the tin – you divide your day into blocks of time with each block dedicated to accomplishing a specific task.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed by a mass of random assignments that need to be completed throughout the week, look at each of your days and group certain tasks together e.g. social media, emails and meetings.

Then, set these tasks out with a certain amount of time throughout the day. During these hours, only work on that specific sector of your business. This will allow you to tick off larger projects without distractions.

For example:

8am – 9am: Email Administration

9am – 10am: Social Media Monitoring

10am – 1pm: Manufacturing

Etc…
