The process of creating bath bombs is a minefield of potential mistakes, but we’re here to help
To create the perfect bath bomb mixture, you need to combine the right ingredients with a precise technique to achieve a product that fizzes, smells amazing, and nourishes the skin.
So, whether you’re making bath bombs for personal use or as gifts, follow these steps to achieve a perfect result every time.
Selecting Quality Ingredients
The foundation of a perfect bath bomb lies in the quality of its ingredients. The primary components include bicarbonate of soda and citric acid, which react to create the fizzing effect.
Choose tried and tested fragrance oils, mica powders and water-soluble dyes that will enhance your bath bomb’s overall quality, without staining the tub or skin.
Perfecting the Dry Mix
Achieving the right consistency in your mix is crucial, so start by thoroughly mixing your dry ingredients together.
Sifting these ingredients together first helps to eliminate clumps and ensures a smooth texture, which is essential to avoid any inconsistencies in the final product.
Balancing the Wet Ingredients
The wet ingredients are what bind the mixture together and produce fragrance and colour.
Adding water in small amounts will help to bind the mixture, but be cautious as too much liquid can start the fizzing reaction prematurely. To avoid this, use a spray bottle to add the liquid gradually, mixing constantly to achieve a damp, sand-like consistency.
Moulding and Shaping
Once your mixture reaches the ideal consistency, it’s time to mould your bath bombs. Our LDPE moulds are popular as they allow for easy removal of the bath bombs once they’ve dried.
It’s important to pack the mixture tightly to avoid crumbling. Also, allow the bath bombs to dry in the moulds for at least 24 hours in a dry, cool place to ensure they harden properly.
Storing and Using Your Bath Bombs
After unmoulding your bath bombs, store them in an airtight container to maintain their freshness and prevent them from absorbing moisture from the air.
Proper storage ensures that your bath bombs remain effective and fizzy for a longer period.
