Everything your label needs (and what it doesn’t) 📝

Getting your labels right isn’t just about making your products look good. It’s a legal must-have and gives customers confidence in your creations.

Let’s break down what every cosmetic label should include, and what can be left off.

Product name 🎯

The name must match what’s registered on the portal and clearly explain what the product is.

For example, “La Fee Bath Bomb” works, but just “La Fee” or “Bath Bomb” doesn’t.

Ingredients list 🌿

Always use INCI names as shown in your assessment, listed in descending order by weight.

Colourants must include their CI numbers, and allergens should be listed at the end. Double-check carefully against your assessment, as even a small mistake can make your label incorrect.

Directions & advice 💡

Keep user directions simple. You can also add extra customer advice, like noting if a bath bomb might make the tub slippery. This isn’t required, but it’s good practice.

Batch, expiry & warnings ⏳

Add a batch number and either a best-before date or PAO (period after opening) symbol, depending on your assessment.

Include any warnings listed in your assessment, such as colourants not suitable near the eyes.

Contact details 📍

Labels must include your name, address and phone number. The address can be shortened to building number and postcode, for example, “123, DY55 7HJ.”

Clear, accurate labels keep you compliant and reassure your customers. Keep your assessment to hand and always check against it before printing.
